The drawknife was quite challenging for me especially from the ergonomics point of view. This tool is used with a big power; therefore a good gripping is very important. Drawknife is nowadays quite a neglected tool and it definitely deserves a better design and innovation. The construction of the blade was changed significantly. It is not die forged as usually, but it is cut out and bended into the final shape. This would simplify and cheapen the manufacturing. There is a possibility to produce also concave and convex drawknife with minimal changes in production process. Moreover the new construction of the blade is flexible and absorbs all the shocks. The handles were the most important issue. Thanks to the correct angle with the blade the overall control over the cut was improved significantly. The biggest pressure on the hand is on the area of the fifth metacarpus, so there is no need to constantly squeeze the handle. The support for the thumbs in the front part has also improved the sensitivity and control over the tool. Bachelor degree project, 2010 (FUD UJEP) |
