Design of this toaster was created during my studies at the University of Derby (UK). It was a playful project divided in two stages. In the first phase it was important to come up with a new concept and investigate today’s trends and problems. With my design I reflected the coldness and soulless of some present appliance in today’s “era of stainless steel”. That is why I added a removable cover made of bended plywood which can serve as a crumbs tray. In the second phase it was important to go down to earth and consider all the technical, manufacturing or hygienic requirements. The overall shape was distinctively simplified with the emphasis on semantics. It is possible to use veneer to achieve the soft feel of wood or other colour schemes. Groupwork project with: Hayley Powell, Varun Gujral, Minas Patsalos and Catherine Whiting
